Transmission of Sound Waves in Ocean Water Essay Example for Free
Transmission of Sound Waves in Ocean Water Essay Ocean acoustics is the study of the behavior of sound in the sea water. When underwater species and objects move and vibrate, they create sound-pressure waves which compress and decompress water molecules. These sound waves travel through the sea and radiates in all directions away from their source and thus forming ripples on the water surface. The three basic components of sound waves which explain the behavior of sounds are wavelength, frequency and amplitude. Frequency is the number of pressure waves that pass by a reference point per unit time (NOAA Ocean Explorer). Higher frequency means a higher pitched sound and vice versa. Wavelength is the distances between the two peaks of sound waves. It is a rule that longer wavelength means lower frequency. Lastly, amplitude is the height of the sound-pressure wave or it is the loudness of a sound (measured in decibels). If there are only small variations in amplitude (short pressure waves), the sound is said to be weak or quiet, and vice versa. Temperature, pressure and the degree of salinity also affect the speed of sound. The spread of sound waves in sea water can be directly affected by suspensions of particle matter that can scatter, absorb and reflect waves. This means that the more obstructions there are beneath the water, the more random sound waves can be. It has been proven that wavelength and frequency are inversely proportional (i. e. the longer the wavelength, the lower the frequency). When long wavelength sounds encountered few particles as they pass through the medium, they are not as subject to absorption, reflection or scattering. Therefore, low frequency sounds are able to travel farther without any significant loss of signal strength. The speed of sound in the deeper regions is influenced more by high pressure than any other factors. On the other hand, temperature is the factor that governs the speed of sound in shallower surfaces. In short, the greater the temperature of water the faster sound can travel and the greater the pressure, the slower the sound can travel. Personal Statement Essay -- College Admissions Essays
We are the media and the media is us. That statement is very broad and is so for a good reason. Through out the world and the history of our society, media has transformed, melted, bent, molded and made our society and culture what it is today. But at the same time, our culture and society has done the exact same thing to media. It is hard to realize or imagine a time without televisions, telephones, fax machines, printers, computers, cell phones, pagers and other electronic technologies that have made our lives, hopefully, stress-free. Those items were and are still being invented today to make our lives easier and better, but are they really making life easier and better? Media plays a big part in defining what society wants and gets. Society tells our media what society wants. There are both upsides and downsides to the media, one saying what both of us want and two doing what both of us want. à à à à à First letââ¬â¢s start with the downsides of our media. Our media censors us and desensitizes us to our own society. Lets take for example the news, in news the stories that air are stories that include blood and guts. Why? Because those stories reflect the morals of society. We would rather actually see someone slashed, shot, run over, or cut than be asked to imagine what happened. The reason for preferring violent images comes from and stems from movies. It is not a good action flick unless someone loses their life or good guy, bad guy. It is what we are used to. Even in the fifties there was Zorro and the masked ranger. The good guy always had to win no matter what. This way of thinking is where the media gets their ideas. Another downside of media is the negative image they give the United States. If you go to Ireland and ask them how they thought Americans lived, they would probably say that we are stuck up, violent, non-caring, money grubbing and work obsessed people. They get this idea from American sitcoms that air there. One for Example is The Simpsons. They think that all males sit on the couch, drink beer, and are not responsible. They think that little boys go around and cause trouble and get kicked out of school. As for little girls, they think they are angels and never do anything wrong unless possessed by the devil. Finally, they think that females are in charge of keeping the males out of trouble, as well. Of course, this i... ...t are kids going to do if you tell them that they cannot have it. They will some how or another get their hands on it, whether it be from another kid or buying it themselves. And that is exactly what happened. He got the news press after him, the news media after him, MTV did a interview with him, and all because parents did not like his lyrics. My response to them is then do not listen to him and do not by his records. The only way a music artist makes any money is if the records sell. Now, on the other hand, if any of this happened to a politician their career would be over. They would never be believed and many people would disregard what they say. Again it all started because the media opened their mouth and printed it on paper. Overall media is a good form of communication and reinsures that this country would not survive without it if you took it away from them right now, but if we never had media in the first place, this might have a different answer. Media is all around and you can never get away from it. Always be aware of what they are saying, but do not take their word as Gospel. They are just expressing the same right all of us have. Just remember to express your own.

Drexel University Dining
James Kirwan and Joey Mannarino John Borczon English 102 2/28/13 Drexel Dining Not Meeting Basic Needs As any college student knows, the quality of a schoolââ¬â¢s dining hall is extremely important. To be successful as students, it is an absolute must that a student is strong and healthy. One of the keys to being strong and healthy is a healthy and balanced diet, filled with a variety of foods. At Drexel, we are being deprived of this necessity. While we do have a dining hall that is open for most of our day, actually eating there is an issue. For all freshmen at Drexel, a dining plan is required. There are three different traditional meal plans, ranging from a hefty $1,830 to $1,915. All three traditional plans revolve around the Handshumacher Dining Center. The custom meal plans also provide various options, but in the end, focus around the Handshumacher Dining Center as well. The meal plans are outrageously expensive; however, considering the tuition most students are paying, th is is not the issue. The issue is the quality of food in the dining hall. It is one matter for students not to enjoy the food that they eat, but even more of a concern when the food they are eating is unsafe to be eaten.Just in the last few weeks, at least 10 people have been bed ridden for days due to, what they believe, to be food poisoning from the Handshumacher Dining Center. This is a major problem. Once a person has contracted a food-borne illness, participating in academics and/or extracurricular activities becomes nearly impossible, affecting studentsââ¬â¢ lives and grades severely. With students potentially in danger of becoming sick and being affected in their academics, this is more than just disliking the dining hall. The Handschumacher Dining Center is not clean by any means at all. After eating there a few times, occurrences such as finding a single black hair in our mashed potatoes and flakes of crude in our drinks became a regular ordeal. When trying to get soda fr om the soda machine there would be various particles coming from the machine itself. Once it comes out of the dirty machine, it will then go into one of the glass cups provided by the dining center. These are rarely cleaned properly and there always spots and other residue on them (see below). [pic] This is also a major problem with the utensils and even the plates. There is simply no excuse for this, as we are paying a good amount of money for the dining hall. The entire dining hall environment is a disgrace. Upon entering the dining hall, you are lead down a flight of stairs into a dull gray basement with next to no natural lighting. The area where the food is prepared for the studentââ¬â¢s is not visible, and based on the food that is served, probably for good reason. Once our tray is filled with whatever sub-par food they have prepared for us, we are to go into a very poorly designed seating area. The eating environment is far from pleasant.Half the challenge is finding a tabl e that is clean enough to eat at, as the tables are not regularly cleaned off when students leave them. One could argue that it is the studentsââ¬â¢ responsibility to keep the tables clean, but this is simply illogical. If there are people being paid to clean the tables, a student is not going to go out of their way in making sure their area is cleaned. The lack of cleanliness of the dining center extends beyond the seating area. If what we see out in the seating area is bad, what goes on behind the scenes is even worse. In a December 2010 Pennsylvania Food Code inspection, there were ââ¬Å"mouse feces found in the kitchens and storage areas, fruit flies observed underneath a self-serve beverage station and lack of a dedicated sink for mop-water disposal, among other violationsâ⬠(Strauss). The Triangle, Drexelââ¬â¢s newspaper, has various accounts recorded about the Handschumacher Dining Center, one of which includes a student seeing a live mouse running around. In these conditions, it is just about impossible for any food prepared to possibly be sanitary. This January, The Triangle published another article that discusses students receiving food poisoning and even the norovirus from the Handschumacher Dining Terrace. Norovirus is a highly contagious virus usually transmitted through undercooked food and occasionally direct contact with an infected person. The student who contracted the norovirus ended up being sent to the ER. In the Drexel Facebook group there are posts weekly that complain about food poisoning or stomach aches caused from this dining hall. One of those students is Maggie Heath-Bourne.She ââ¬Å"personally know[s] a good deal of people who have gotten sickâ⬠from this dining center. She was unable to attend her Wednesday classes. Maggie also positive that the dining center caused her illness ââ¬Å"because [she] had been really rushed at the beginning of the week and only had time to go [to the Hans] on Monday and Tuesday, [an d she] got sick on Wednesday. â⬠Since the university basically requires its freshman to eat at this dining hall, something needs to be done. There is no reason students should be scared for their health by eating at their own dining hall. The issues above are absolutely unacceptable for our dining hall, but in actuality, these are issues faced by quite a few dining halls around the country. In examining the various dining halls that have had problems there seems to be one common thread- the food production company Sodexo. We asked friends of ours how satisfied they were with their dining halls. Those who were happy with their dining halls went to schools that did not have Sodexo. Most of these studentsââ¬â¢ dining halls were controlled by Aramark. In further research, it became apparent that Sodexo is the root of our problems at Drexel. The same types of problems that we had at Drexel were faced by students at Fordham University, who also contracts Sodexo. An excerpt of the i nspection read: ââ¬Å"The inspections unearthed evidence of mice, roaches and improper storage of food, shortcomings that placed Fordham eateries in the lowest grade bracketâ⬠(Ram Online). This is concerning not only for Fordham students but for any school that allows Sodexo to control its dining environment. The case at Fordham got so out of hand that the dining hall was required to be shut down for a little while. Once it was finally opened back up, the tudents decided to hold a protest. However, this protest got them absolutely nowhere. At Drexel, there has to be a solution that we can execute to get a decent selection of food in our dining hall. At Fordham University, the method of a protest failed, as Sodexo still stayed as the schoolââ¬â¢s main food supplier. Sodexo claims on its website that it has a board of students that overview itââ¬â¢s dining services. This board of students does not have a representative from Drexel University on it. If we had some input ab out our dining hall through this board, maybe there would be some action taken.Another solution we could execute is introducing a board of various students that oversees and works with the kitchen staff to make sure the meals are both well prepared and well varied. These students would need to be Drexel students who frequent the dining hall. By being on this board, they will receive no benefits towards their dining hall plans or anything of the sorts. It would be a totally transparent board also. This way, students would have an outlet to go to to complain about the problems in this dining hall. The way it is set up now, it is extremely hard to get a meeting with anyone in the dining hall. For the purpose of this paper we attempted to set up a meeting with the director of residential living on campus. It took us about an entire month to schedule a meeting with this man. For a campus environment that can be fair to all, the food staff needs to be much more accessible. It is ridiculous that we have to wait so long for a meeting with someone who can make a change for us. This student board could supervise Sodexo until its contract with Drexel University is over. However, as soon as possible getting Sodexo out of Drexelââ¬â¢s dining hall would be ideal. This company has proven time and time again throughout the country that it cannot maintain a dining environment. Sure, it can provide food, but not good or safe food. This student leadership board could take a look at other food companies that are doing a better job satisfying both studentsââ¬â¢ needs and also pass health inspections. Drexel has decent dining options outside of the dining hall. There is a second dining option, accessible only through our dining dollars which is kept fairly clean. The food choices are from chains across the country. The election of food is not the best, but at least it is kept clean. This would probably not be the direction for our dining hall to go in. Drexel has a faculty dini ng hall, run by Sodexo, which is treated in a different manner entirely then the Handschumacher Dining Center. Why should the students be getting second rate food when they are paying for a meal plan? Also, Drexel just received a large scale grant that is going to a renovation project for the area outside of the main building. With this money, Drexel could have begun production on a dining hall run by the 12th Street Caterers, also a Drexel company. With so many possible solutions why do we allow Drexel to continue to feed us the same dirty and poorly made food? We have to find some sort of way to make sure that Drexel implements the studentââ¬â¢s opinions into choosing a new plan and direction for its dining hall. To start, we must set up some sort of board for students to voice their opinions directly to Sodexo. From there, we must see what we can do to get Sodexo out, and using this same board of students, create a new solution that pleases all students and also follows health standards. No matter what we do, we cannot keep going in the manner that we are going.

College Student Stress Coping Essay
College students facing academic, social, and other stresses such as finances and how to cope with them. The most common stress most college students face is the stress from the work load that is common in a higher education system. This is the major challenge, and you will be facing without the close guidance you may have previously enjoyed from a teacher or parent; Social stress seems to be more prominent with underclassmen leaving home and there support structure from home but can affect any college student. Most students find that the number one cause of stress for them is financially trying to juggle a full load, and work full time to support yourself and for other students pay for school. Academic stress seems to be what cause the biggest problem for most students. There are some things you can do if you would like to lower your stress level and make student life better. First thing you should do is get the right information from the very beginning. How many lectures, seminars or laboratory sessions are you supposed to be attending? With your assignments make sure you know exactly what you are being asked to do? How many words youââ¬â¢re expected to write and what the deadline is for handing it in. Also try to set up your own space for academicââ¬â¢s to make it easier to focus and concentrate, if you have a noisy roommate try to find a place in the library or even a local coffee shop to frequent. These suggestions will help lower your academics stress which will make life easier for the college student. Social stress for college students is something else that is very common especially in new college students. Most social stress comes from trying to fit it or even trying to create a new social network because in most caseââ¬â¢s this is the first time away from home and away from your entire support structure and comfort zone. With social stress one of the most important things to remember is to try and stay involved in different activities at school and get involved with different organizations on campus to meet new people. When getting involved with the organizationââ¬â¢s on campus youââ¬â¢ll meet new friends and become more socially outgoing which will help greatly with social stress. Reducing the amount of social stress in college students, will lead to a more enjoyable and positive experience. Financial stress tends to be tohe root of most students problems whether itââ¬â¢s from overspending, lack of proper guidance, peer pressure, inexperience or many other factors. As a result just about everyone is bogged down with large debts increasing day by day. As students many have tried different things to cut down expense but still no luck. There are many ways to help lift the financial stress for college students like taking federal or private loans, grants and scholarships, and working during the summer vacation. By taking federal or private loans you get to choose the best one that is suitable for your need, if you decide to go for a private one then do enough research to make sure youââ¬â¢re not at a loss and end up paying more instead of benefitting from it. Grants and scholarships are another great ideas because these will help lift the burden of some financial stress. When applying for grants and scholarships keep in mind these are offered free by federal organizations for the benefit of students. Make sure to take advantage of the situation but you have to prove worthy for these aids. Getting summer jobs will also help lift some of that financial stress because you can do it in your off time and not stress with studying or school work but catch up and save some money! Another great thing to do is get into some organizations to help meet new people and even become more outgoing to make the college experience more fun and less stress. Financial stress seems to be the biggest burden for college students trying to survive on your own and worrying about how you will pay forà school. Remember federal and private loans are a great way to lift stress off you but just do your research and find the one that will work best for your needs. Grants and scholarships are the best thing for most students because they are offered for free from federal organizations but you must prove yourself for these aids Summer jobs are great for students who want to make a little extra cash on the side and lift the stress and worry of college off their mind. B y following some of these tips you are sure to reduce some stress in your everyday college life.

Essay on OutsourcingEssay Writing Service
Essay on OutsourcingEssay Writing Service Essay on Outsourcing Essay on OutsourcingIn an increasingly competitive, business development depends on the effective management of assets, including by the maximum concentration of resources on the core activity of the organization. However, as a rule, any organization is burdened with non-core but no less important services for its functioning: IT, accounting, legal department, etc. In order to successfully exist and develop without wasting resources, organization can eliminate non-core business functions to outsource. Nowadays, the popularity of outsourcing is growing and firmly entrenched in the minds of the global business community.According to the experts of Outsourcing Institute, outsourcing of business process is an emerging view of the optimization of enterprises, with the largest increase observed in the field of finance and accounting. Statistics gathered in 1997 by the American Management Association showed that already 20% of surveyed 600 firms outsource at least some of the financial and accounting operations, and 80% part of the administrative functions (Spring,à 2010, pp.171-172).Outsourcing is the transfer of non-core business processes to third parties. The first outsourcing services were a bit different, it was an outsourcing of personnel, ie the involvement of employees of another firm to perform some tasks. Today, outsourcing is used in various fields, but most often it is used in warehousing and logistics.Advantages and disadvantages of outsourcingOutsourcing has many advantages, it gives a chance to save on different resources. Organization can focus attention on the processes which are directly profitable and reduced overhead costs. Outsourcing saves training costs. Besides, it eliminates the need to increase the number of staff of the company at the expense of non-core business process. Outsourcing allows the companys management and key employees to concentrate on their core business. With the help of outsourcing, there is a redistribution of organizat ional resources, previously involved in minor roles and directions. Outsourcing ensures continuous uptime (no holidays and sickness). Outsourcing is a major time savings (you can buy ready-made solutions, infrastructure). Outsourcing involves greater transparency (result matters, not the process). Changing outsourcer is easier than changing personnel. Using outsourcing, a company significantly reduces its risks (sharing them with outsourcer). Outsourcing leads to an increase in quality due to the professionals in the business, their experience in similar projects. At the same time, in addition to the obvious benefits, outsourcing has a number of traps or risks (Srabotic,à 2012, p. 205).Risk 1: Customerââ¬â¢s lack of experience of work with outsourcing on the one hand, and declared experience of the Contractor outsourcer on the other. This problem can be solved by testing outsourcer, using recommendations and trial stages of interaction.Risk 2: lack of standards and methodology entails difficulties of measuring the results and quality. You can avoid this by breaking the contract on the result, requirement of measurable standards.Risk 3: lack of organizational involvement. Avoiding is possible by relaying responsibility for the process on the Contractor.Risk 4: waiting for incredible results.Risk 5: failure of the implementation of the project (consideration of potential and non-obvious needs of the organization). You can prepare company to the work with outsourcer in advance.Risk 6: loss of critical business knowledge within the company (outflow of confidential information).Risk 7: inexperience in conformity procedures. Companies need a controller in service delivery, which will assess the effectiveness of outsourcing services to the overall business strategy.Risk 8: lack of effective project management.Risk 9: possible reduction in productivity of its own staff (loss of motivation, assessment of changes as negative).Risk 10: possibility of termination of the contract with the outsourcer (bankruptcy of outsourcer, returning functions inside the business). Keep in mind possible alienation, documented system or repossession.Risk 11: unscheduled time costs success in the interaction (active participation of the customer: functions of tasksââ¬â¢ producer, monitoring and acceptance of work, introduction.)Risk 12: tax risks. There are increased risk and interest in contracts of services and the complexity of proving economic benefit (Solakivi,à 2011, pp.131-132).However, apart from traps of outsourcing for customers, there are trap for performers, ie outsourcers themselves:Outsourcing contract is usually signed for a long period, and this means that there is a risk of future costs and risks, as being dependent on the customer, contractor might work for long period without profit, and sometimes at a loss.Reorganization of processes within the organization may induce its management to the early completion of the contract and resubmitt ing maintenance of functions back to internal divisions, but in accordance with the new processes.Waiting for incredible results.Changing requirements (awareness of opportunities) during the execution of the contract.Change of the creditworthiness of the customer with the planned resources and unsaleable unique product (Sauer,à 2013, p.8).Logistics outsourcingOutsourcing in logistics today for many companies has become the most optimal way to solve logistical problems, such as the delivery of goods or the compilation of transport schemes. It is not possible to debug business processes in logistics without a comprehensive work of highly skilled professionals. Many companies spend considerable sums for hiring a professional to ensure coordination of transport processes, without receiving a good result. That is why currently the most rational decision in this area is considered to be a logistics outsourcing. Services of this kind allow partial or full transfer of organizing business processes to experienced professionals without hiring them to the staff of the company. It is necessary to clarify that logistics is one of the main tools to improve business efficiency and competitiveness. Its main task is to manage the information, financial and material flow with minimum costs. It is worth emphasizing that the outsourcing services are successfully used in the logistics strategy to minimize investment in logistics, as will significantly reduce the cost of logistics business processes. The basis of any logistics business lies in an integrated management and optimization of material flows. Therefore, personnel outsourcing allows firms to transfer the logistics function partially or completely. As a result of the release of some of the financial and managerial resources, it becomes possible to focus on core business processes. Thus, outsourcing in logistics helps strengthen the competitive advantages of the company and becomes the key to its future development.Because of the huge number of offers on the market today, it becomes more difficult to obtain a weighty profit, doing only the development of production and marketing. Outsourcing in logistics enhances profitability by reducing costs. The reduction of logistics costs, if using outsourcing services, is just 1%, which is comparable to 10% increase in sales (Wallenburg,à 2010, pp.579-581).Recently, commercial and industrial companies are increasingly paying attention to the staff outsourcing. The reason is the increasing complexity of conditions and business technologies and the growing importance of its infrastructure components. Naturally, for many industrial and commercial enterprises logistics is not core competencies. Using outsourcing services, such organizations can fully devote themselves to the development of core activities. While the staff outsourcing, who will direct all its potential for development and improvement of logistics processes, ensures the maximum quality of the goods or services of the company. Many logistics companies that use outsourcing of staff note that finding qualified staff to employ is difficult. The fact that outsourcing allows regular employees not to spend time on ineffective or non-core but necessary processes, provides shortening of time for product development and increase the speed of adaptation to regular changes in market conditions.Logistics outsourcing services may include the following areas:Integrated logistics.Optimization of existing and development of new storage schemes;Coordination of the procurement and supply of goods, as well as its labeling, packaging, etc.Registration of customs documentation and freight;Development of optimal transport schemes; The expediency of companyââ¬â¢s use of logistics outsourcing:need to focus on what staff members can do the best (competence concentration), while outsourcing staff will take care of the rest;companys management understands that the company needs a transformation, the co ncreteness of which can be determined only by organization providing outsourcing services;emergence of new ideas for the realization of which the company must go through some changes. Outsourcing of personnel can help in implementation;the need to get a more interesting experience, which can be obtained only through outsourcing staff who will inject new ideas into the company;need for quick and quality optimization of the logistics department, without any loss on training new employees, outsourcing will avoid decrease in the overall performance of the company;most effective way to transfer minor cost from permanent to variables is logistics outsource; As practice shows, the firm that provides outsourcing services has a higher motivation for efficiency than own departments of the company. Logistics outsourcing, as in any other sphere of production, is characterized by the fact that the implementing organization has direct financial obligation for the quality of performed work.Key bene fits and advantages of logistics outsourcing:reduction of risks associated with the implementation of logistics processes as they are passed on to a company that provides outsourcing services;decrease in the percentage of capital investments, which often also go to the contractor company;focus on core competencies promotes the improvement of key processes and gaining additional competitive advantage. Thus, outsourcing of staff, which will take on the implementation of logistics processes, provides a dynamic development of the company, management of which will deal only with strategic objectives. It can be concluded that logistics outsourcing has a strong potential for the development of the modern market.Eventually, many companies come to conclusion that it is almost unreal to establish the business processes in the logistics field without the complex interaction of experienced professionals. Some companies invest huge sums on the training and hiring large number of staff responsible for the coordination of transport and storage processes, while others believe that outsourcing in logistics is the best way to solve logistical problems. In the first case, it is not always possible to achieve good results, that is why many companies prefer to transfer all or part of the business processes organization to proven professionals without hiring them to the staff (Zavrsnik,à 2011, p. 520).à Classification of operatorsProfessionals in logistics quite often use specific terminology for judging the competence of a particular logistics operator:1PL independent autonomous logistics. Shipper independently performs all necessary operations;2PL providing traditional services of warehouse management and transportation;3PL standard list of services complemented by other operations, such as: overload, storage, handling, etc.;4PL involves integration of all the firms that are involved in the supply chain. Log provider of this class is responsible for planning, management an d control of all logistics business processes of the customer, which allows reaching long-term strategic goals and expand the business of the client;5PL management of all components included in a single supply chain of products using electronic means of information processing (Hartmann, 2012, pp. 526-527).ConclusionLogistics outsourcing means a transfer of logistics processes to a third party. The essence of this service is to reduce the companys costs, implementation of the supply of products through the involvement of one or more qualified professionals logistics operators.Logistics outsourcing services may include the following areas: integrated logistics, optimization of existing and development of new storage schemes; coordination of the procurement and supply of goods, as well as its labeling, packaging, etc.; custom documentation and cargo; development of optimal transport schemes. Outsourcing of logistics services involves transmission of professionals, as part of the func tions in this area, and the full scope of authority. When choosing the optimal plan of work for involved specialists, you should take into account the possibility of a private company in organizing logistics. It should be noted that an integrated approach to outsourcing logistics is the most efficient and financially advantageous solution to cope with à various tasks in the area of procurement and supply of products.

Job Search Tips that Work Yes, They Worked for Me!
Job Search Tips that Work Yes, They Worked for Me! Many job search experts, including me, are out there giving tips about how to find jobs. I thought Id give you all some job search tips based on my own experience one that got me several interviews and a part-time job when I moved to a new city. In my search, I was open to accepting a part-time position as something steady and stable while I started my own business. Job Search Tips that Worked 1. Created multiple versions of my resume. One emphasizes my managerial experience; one emphasizes my legal experience; another emphasizes my writing and editing experience. For each job I was interested in, I made sure the keywords from that job description were in my resume! 2. Applied to a lot of jobs. Yes, even ones I thought I didnt want. Some of them turned out to be more interesting than I had expected. I also applied to jobs there was probably no way I would ever get. And I sent cover letters and resumes to places where I would want to work but where there were no available jobs advertised (including the University of Wisconsin Law School). Because you never know. 3. Wrote engaging, punchy cover letters. Each cover letter was custom tailored to the specific job I was applying for. It made a difference. I was offered several interviews in widely divergent fields. 4. Went on an informational interview. Where there was no position currently available but there was a possibility of a future job, I scheduled time to talk to someone relevant. 5. Asked what I needed to bring to interviews. I found out what the employer wanted and brought the requested materials. 6. Showed up 15 minutes early for interviews. I alsoà chatted politely with the receptionists whenever possible. Believe it or not, this practice can get you far! 7. Stayed positive and friendly in the interviews. I talked about things other than the job. Plus I had researched the company, so came prepared with questions I could ask about the organization and the job. 8. Wrote thank you notes. (At least when I was interested in the job!) If 2 people interviewed me, I wrote 2 thank you notes, each with its own unique message. 9. Clarified my priorities for myself. I got clear that having a part-time job with flexibility, in an open and friendly environment, was what I wanted. These attributes were more important for me than the pay rate or even growth opportunities. The more I got clear about what I wanted, the closer I got to getting it. 10. Stayed active! I searched for or applied for jobs every day, while also taking care of my body by exercising every day. I sent out at least 2 job applications per week, whether I found the perfect opportunity or not. In my spare time, I volunteered to help a woman with disabilities to write a book. I took a transcription job that kept a little bit of money flowing in. And I started my own business, which got me out in the community and on the internet networking. I was never sitting around wondering what to do on any given day. Remember, action breeds action! Doingà something ââ¬âà anything ââ¬â keeps you engaged in your life and work. You never know what will come out of the relationships you form. How Effective Are These Job Search Tips? What did I get out of all of this? Obtaining a Masters in Real Estate and Urban Analysis from UF Essay
Obtaining a Masters in Real Estate and Urban Analysis from UF - Essay Example I am very interested at this point in my life in pursuing a Master of Science in Real Estate at the University of Florida. My application is extremely competitive as I enjoy a competitive advantage over the majority of applicants due to the fact that I have successfully completed a graduate degree program in the past. When I studied my graduate degree at the University of Virginia I expanded my critical thinking, analytical abilities, and interpersonal skills. These skills have helped me a lot as a professional and they will help me as a future student at the University of Florida improve my chances of success in the Master of Science in Real Estate graduate program. My job experience is a strong aspect of my application as I have hands on experience in the real estate field. I currently own a startup company that specializes in real estate investments conducting valuation analysis, rehabs and lease options for individuals that need a roof, but are not approved for a loan because of their credit ratings among other factors. I have worked as an accountant in a big firm which sharpened my financial analytical skills as well as developing my abilities to deal with clients. In 2009 I switched careers and obtained a job with Tyco International working for ADT Security Services as a Sr. Financial Analyst providing support for the marketing department.
